Last Dec. 31, my uncle underwent spinal surgery for the removal of a tumor. The operation went well until his BP started to drop during recovery. His blood type is O+. I am O+. And he needs transfusion. We immediately went to Medical City's blood bank to have my blood screened for possible donation. The other donors were Cat, Appie, and JB. It was a good thing no one drank alcohol during the Media Noche and everyone passed the screening.
Things I learned:
- The Lees have thin veins making it hard for the med techs to find a good vein to poke.
- The needles used for getting the blood were as big as the tip of a ballpoint pen. Ouch!
- It feels good to help save another person's life.
